Dear Students,
In remembrance of the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848-49 on its 168th anniversary the Local Government of the City of Debrecen organizes a torchlight procession that starts from the Main Building of the University of Debrecen on 14 March (Monday), on the eve of the national holiday.
It's always a wonderful and memorable view!
We want to show you and tell you something about the story of this event, and then join the crowd and walk to the centre and watch the celebration & folklore performances!
MEETING POINT: University tram stop ("Egyetem") - "Speedy Snack" fast food restaurant and we'll go together to the University.
MEETING TIME: 18:15 (6.15 PM) in front of Speedy Snack at "Egyetem" tram stop! The procession itself starts at 18:30 - we ask you to come earlier to get the torches and light them all.
You get the torch for free but you may also bring candles and walk with those as not all of you may get a torch :) (Don't forget to put a piece of paper around the candle to keep your hands safe!!!)
It is a Hungarian tradition to wear the national red-white-green tricolor above our hearts on this day so we will bring those for you and you can put it on your coats!
